By the end of this comparison, you’ll have a clear understanding of what sets these two editions apart and which one is best suited for your requirements.

Features: Windows 10 Home vs. Pro

One of the main differences between Windows 10 Home vs. Pro lies in the features each edition offers. While Windows 10 Home provides a solid foundation with a range of essential features, Windows 10 Pro builds on this by including additional tools and functionalities geared towards power users and businesses.

Some of the key features exclusive to Windows 10 Pro include:

1. Domain Join and Group Policy Management

2. BitLocker

Windows 10 Pro comes with BitLocker, a robust encryption tool that helps protect your data by encrypting your drives. This added layer of security is especially crucial for businesses and users who handle sensitive information.

3. Remote Desktop

The Pro edition of Windows 10 includes the Remote Desktop feature, allowing users to remotely access their computers from other devices. This functionality can be incredibly helpful for businesses that require remote management or support.

In terms of performance, there is little difference between Windows 10 Home vs. Pro. Both editions are built on the same underlying architecture and provide the same level of stability and speed. However, the additional features and tools available in Windows 10 Pro can offer performance benefits for certain users, such as IT professionals, developers, and businesses that require advanced management capabilities.

Security: Windows 10 Home vs. Pro

Security is a critical factor to consider when comparing Windows 10 Home vs. Pro. While both editions come with built-in security features such as Windows Defender Antivirus and Windows Firewall, Windows 10 Pro offers additional security enhancements. As mentioned earlier, the Pro edition includes BitLocker for drive encryption, which can help protect sensitive data from unauthorized access.

Moreover, Windows 10 Pro offers more granular control over security settings through features like Group Policy Management and Enterprise Data Protection, which can help businesses safeguard their data and comply with industry regulations.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, Windows 10 Home is the more affordable option, making it suitable for users with basic computing needs. Windows 10 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a higher price tag due to the advanced features and tools it offers. The exact cost may vary depending on the region and whether you’re purchasing a new license or upgrading from a previous version of Windows.

If you’re a home user with basic computing requirements and don’t need the advanced features that Pro offers, then Windows 10 Home may be the right choice for you. On the other hand, if you’re a power user, business owner, or IT professional who requires advanced management capabilities, security enhancements, and virtualization support, then Windows 10 Pro may be worth the additional investment.

Upgradeability

If you’re currently using Windows 10 Home and find that you require the advanced features offered by Windows 10 Pro, it’s possible to upgrade your existing edition. Microsoft offers an upgrade path from Windows 10 Home to Pro, allowing you to unlock the additional features without having to perform a clean installation of the operating system. This upgrade can be purchased through the Microsoft Store, and the process is typically quick and seamless.

Support and Updates

Both Windows 10 Home and Pro receive regular updates from Microsoft, ensuring that your system remains secure and up-to-date. These updates include security patches, bug fixes, and feature enhancements, helping to maintain the stability and performance of your operating system.

However, one key difference in update management between Windows 10 Home vs. Pro is the level of control users have over when updates are installed. Windows 10 Pro offers more flexibility in this regard, allowing users to delay updates or choose when they are applied. This can be particularly beneficial for businesses that need to test updates for compatibility before deploying them across their network.

Conclusion: Windows 10 Home vs. Pro

In conclusion, the choice between Windows 10 Home vs. Pro largely depends on your specific needs, preferences, and budget. While both editions offer a robust and reliable computing experience, the Pro edition caters to power users, businesses, and IT professionals with its advanced features and enhanced security capabilities.

If you’re a home user who primarily uses your computer for everyday tasks like web browsing, media consumption, and productivity, Windows 10 Home should be more than sufficient. However, if you need advanced management tools, virtualization support, or additional security features, it’s worth considering the investment in Windows 10 Pro.

By taking the time to understand the key differences between Windows 10 Home vs. Pro, you can make an informed decision that best aligns with your requirements and ensures a smooth, enjoyable computing experience.

Windows License Guide: Everything You Need to Know

A Windows License is one of the most important components of any Microsoft Windows installation. Whether you’re setting up a new computer, upgrading an existing device, or purchasing software for a business, understanding how licensing works can help you make better purchasing decisions and avoid common activation problems.

Many users know they need a product key to activate Windows, but fewer understand the different license types, how activation works, or what happens after installation. As Windows continues to be one of the most widely used operating systems in the world, understanding licensing has become increasingly important for both home users and businesses.

This guide explains what a Windows License is, how it works, the different license types available, and why using properly licensed software matters.

What Is a Windows License?

A Windows License is the legal authorization that allows a user to install and activate Microsoft Windows on a compatible device.

When Windows is installed, the operating system initially runs in a limited state until activation is completed. Activation confirms that the software is being used according to Microsoft’s licensing terms.

A license typically provides access to:

  • Windows activation
  • Security updates
  • Feature updates
  • Operating system functionality
  • Microsoft services compatibility
  • Long-term software support

Without activation, users may experience restrictions and ongoing notifications reminding them to activate Windows.

Why Is a Windows License Important?

A valid license ensures that Windows operates correctly and receives ongoing support.

Benefits include:

Access to Updates

Regular updates help improve security, stability, and performance.

Improved Security

Security patches help protect systems against newly discovered vulnerabilities.

Full Operating System Functionality

Activated systems provide access to all supported features and customization options.

Long-Term Reliability

Proper licensing helps ensure compatibility with future updates and software.

Better User Experience

Users avoid activation warnings and licensing-related interruptions.

For both personal and business environments, proper licensing contributes to a more stable and secure computing experience.

How Does Windows Activation Work?

Activation is the process used to verify that a copy of Windows is properly licensed.

During activation:

  1. Windows checks the product key or digital license.
  2. The license is verified.
  3. The operating system is activated.
  4. Full functionality becomes available.

Once activated successfully, most users never need to think about activation again unless major hardware changes occur or Windows is reinstalled.

The activation process is generally quick and straightforward when valid licensing information is available.

Retail licenses are designed for individual users.

Benefits often include:

  • Full activation support
  • Personal ownership
  • Suitable for home and business use
  • Direct purchase availability

Retail licensing remains a popular choice for many users because of its flexibility and straightforward activation process.

  • Number of devices
  • Budget
  • Long-term plans
  • Compatibility needs

A home user may have different requirements than a company managing dozens of workstations.

Understanding your needs before purchasing helps avoid unnecessary costs and licensing confusion.

Risks of Using Pirated Windows Copies: Security, Privacy & Legal Concerns

Risks of Using Pirated Windows Copies

Risks of Using Pirated Windows Copies: Security, Privacy & Legal Concerns

Risks of Using Pirated Windows Copies: Many computer users are tempted by pirated Windows copies because they appear to offer a quick and inexpensive way to install Microsoft’s operating system. Online forums, torrent websites, unofficial activation tools, and modified installation packages often promise free access to Windows without requiring a legitimate license.

While these offers may seem attractive at first, the risks associated with pirated Windows copies are often far greater than many users realize.

Using unofficial software can expose computers to malware, ransomware, privacy threats, activation problems, system instability, and long-term security risks. Cybersecurity researchers and software vendors have repeatedly warned that counterfeit software remains one of the most common ways malware is distributed online.

In this guide, we explain the major risks of using pirated Windows copies and why genuine software remains the safer long-term option.

Why People Use Pirated Software

The most common reason people use unauthorized software is cost.

Some users believe they can:

  • Save money
  • Avoid purchasing a license
  • Gain access to premium features
  • Activate Windows without restrictions

However, short-term savings often come with hidden risks that may eventually cost far more than a legitimate license. Microsoft and independent security studies have repeatedly linked non-genuine software to malware infections and cybersecurity incidents.

Malware Risks

One of the biggest dangers associated with pirated Windows copies is malware.

Cybercriminals frequently modify installation files before distributing them online.

Malicious software hidden inside unofficial installations may include:

  • Trojans
  • Spyware
  • Keyloggers
  • Backdoors
  • Cryptominers
  • Ransomware

Users often believe they are installing Windows, while harmful software is silently installed in the background. Research commissioned by Microsoft found that pirated software downloads frequently contain malicious code

Credential Theft and Privacy Risks

Many malicious programs focus on stealing sensitive information.

Compromised systems may expose:

  • Email passwords
  • Banking credentials
  • Browser data
  • Social media accounts
  • Saved login information

Microsoft has previously warned that malware distributed through counterfeit software can record keystrokes, collect personal information, and even provide remote access to attackers.

For users who store personal or financial information on their devices, these risks can be severe.

Ransomware Exposure

Ransomware attacks continue to increase globally.

Pirated software is often used as a delivery mechanism for ransomware infections.

Once installed, ransomware may:

  • Encrypt documents
  • Lock personal files
  • Restrict access to data
  • Demand payment for recovery

Because users often disable security protections when installing unauthorized software, ransomware infections may become even more difficult to prevent.

Security Update Problems

One of the major benefits of genuine software is ongoing access to updates.

Security updates help address:

  • Newly discovered vulnerabilities
  • Software flaws
  • Security weaknesses
  • Compatibility issues

Pirated Windows copies may experience update failures, activation problems, or reduced access to official support channels. This can leave systems exposed to known security vulnerabilities for extended periods.

System Instability

Modified operating systems often behave differently from official releases.

Users may experience:

  • Random crashes
  • Driver issues
  • Software conflicts
  • Failed updates
  • Activation errors
  • Performance problems

Because unofficial installers frequently alter system files, long-term stability cannot always be guaranteed.

Dangerous Activation Tools

Many pirated Windows copies rely on activation bypass tools.

These tools often require:

  • Administrator access
  • System modifications
  • Antivirus deactivation
  • Security bypasses

This creates an ideal environment for malware infections.

Microsoft recently blocked a widely used illegal activation method because of concerns regarding system integrity and the distribution of modified malicious versions.

Even when activation tools appear to work, users cannot always verify what additional code may have been installed.

Risks for Businesses

The dangers become even greater in business environments.

Organizations using unauthorized software may face:

  • Security incidents
  • Data breaches
  • Compliance violations
  • Legal exposure
  • Operational disruptions

Security experts frequently warn that unlicensed software increases organizational cybersecurity risks because updates, support, and security verification cannot be guaranteed.

For businesses handling customer information, the consequences can be significant.

Legal Concerns

Software licensing is also a legal issue.

Using unauthorized copies of Windows may violate copyright laws and software licensing agreements.

Potential consequences may include:

  • License audits
  • Financial penalties
  • Compliance issues
  • Business reputation damage

While enforcement varies by region, businesses are generally expected to maintain proper software licensing practices.

Performance and Reliability Issues

Many users assume pirated software performs identically to genuine versions.

In reality, modified installations may contain:

  • Unwanted background processes
  • Hidden software
  • Resource-heavy malware
  • Altered system components

These changes can negatively affect performance and reliability over time.

Some studies have suggested that properly activated systems often deliver more consistent performance than counterfeit installations.

Genuine Software Benefits

Using properly licensed Windows provides several important advantages.

Benefits may include:

  • Official activation
  • Security updates
  • Reliable performance
  • Improved compatibility
  • Access to support
  • Reduced malware risk
  • Long-term stability

These benefits help create a safer and more dependable computing environment.

Genuine vs Pirated Windows Copies

Many users compare licensed software with unauthorized alternatives.

Feature Comparison: Genuine vs Pirated Windows Copies

FeatureGenuine WindowsPirated Windows

Security Updates✅ Regular⚠️ Unreliable
Malware Risk✅ Lower⚠️ Higher
Ransomware Protection✅ Supported⚠️ Increased Risk
System Stability✅ Reliable⚠️ Variable
Technical Support✅ Available❌ Unavailable
Privacy Protection✅ Better Security⚠️ Increased Exposure
Future Compatibility✅ Supported⚠️ Uncertain
Legal Compliance✅ Yes❌ No
Long-Term Reliability✅ High⚠️ Unpredictable

Why Genuine Software Is Safer

Properly licensed Windows provides ongoing updates, official support, improved security, and long-term reliability.

While pirated software may appear to reduce costs initially, the risks associated with malware, privacy breaches, ransomware, and system instability often outweigh any short-term savings.

How to Avoid Pirated Software

Users can reduce risks by following several best practices:

  • Purchase software from trusted sources
  • Avoid unofficial activation tools
  • Download Windows from official channels
  • Verify product authenticity
  • Keep systems updated
  • Use reputable security software

Taking these precautions helps reduce exposure to cybersecurity threats.

Final Thoughts: Risks of Using Pirated Windows Copies

The risks of using pirated Windows copies extend far beyond simple licensing concerns.

Unauthorized software can expose users to malware, ransomware, privacy threats, activation problems, security vulnerabilities, and long-term system instability. Research from Microsoft and cybersecurity organizations continues to show strong links between counterfeit software and malicious activity.

For users who value security, reliability, privacy, and long-term performance, genuine software remains the safest choice.

As cyber threats continue to evolve, maintaining properly licensed and fully updated systems is one of the most effective ways to protect devices and personal information.

Microsoft Extends Office Support for Windows 10 Users Until 2028

Office support for the Windows 10 operating system will continue for several more years — but what does this really mean for users and businesses?

Microsoft has confirmed that although official support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscription-based apps — including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook — will continue to receive Office support on Windows 10 until October 2028.

Why Is Office Support for Windows 10 Important?

Millions of users and businesses still rely on Windows 10. For many, upgrading to Windows 11 is not straightforward — either due to outdated hardware or the need for legacy software. Microsoft’s decision to extend Office support provides valuable time to plan an appropriate transition.

What Exactly Will Continue to Work on Windows 10?

This extended Office support only applies to cloud-based subscription versions, specifically:

  • Desktop apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

These applications will continue to receive:

  • Security updates

  • Bug fixes

  • Some feature enhancements

⚠️ Note: One-time purchases like Office 2016 and Office 2019 are not included in this extended support. These versions may lose support on Windows 10 earlier than 2028.

What Does the End of Windows 10 Support Mean?

Starting October 14, 2025, Windows 10 will no longer receive:

  • Security updates

  • Technical support from Microsoft

  • New features or stability improvements

Even though Office support for Windows 10 continues for an additional three years, the operating system itself becomes a security risk. Outdated systems are common targets for malware and hackers, making timely upgrades essential.

Office Support for Windows 10: Should You Upgrade to Windows 11?

Microsoft strongly recommends that all users move to Windows 11 to benefit from:

  • Enhanced security features (e.g., TPM 2.0, Windows Hello)

  • A modern user interface and improved performance

  • Full Office compatibility and continued support

If your current device doesn’t meet Windows 11 system requirements, you may consider investing in new hardware or — as a temporary measure — continue using Windows 10 with full awareness of the associated risks.

How to Prepare?

Whether you’re a business or an individual user, here’s a quick action plan:

  1. Check your current Office version.
If you’re still using Office 2016 or 2019, consider switching to Microsoft 365 for extended support.

  2. Assess device compatibility with Windows 11.
Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check tool for a quick evaluation.

Are Cheap Windows 10 and Windows 11 Keys Legal?

If you are looking for a new Windows 10 or Windows 11 license, you will quickly notice a significant price difference. In Microsoft’s official store, Windows often costs well over one hundred euros, while many online stores offer Windows keys at much lower prices.
This leads many users to ask an entirely reasonable question: are these cheap Windows keys actually legal, or is something suspicious going on?

This concern is understandable. The internet is full of stories about activations that expire, KMS servers, “cracks,” and license keys that stop working after some time. However, a low price does not automatically mean an illegal product. To distinguish between a questionable offer and a fully legitimate Windows key, it is important to understand how Windows licensing actually works.

Why Do Cheap Windows Keys Raise Suspicion?

The main reason is simple psychology:
when the same product costs €150–250 in one place and significantly less elsewhere, it naturally seems suspicious. In addition, many users have previously encountered problematic solutions such as:

  • temporary activations that expire after a few months,

  • KMS-based activations that stop working,

  • keys of unclear origin with no customer support,

  • scripts or “activators” that modify system settings.

All of this has created a widespread assumption that a cheap Windows key equals piracy. In reality, the situation is far more nuanced.

A Windows License Is Not a Single Product

It is important to understand that a Windows license is not one universal product with a fixed price. Microsoft uses several different licensing models, each designed for a specific use case.

The most common ones are:

  • Retail license – intended for end users and sold in Microsoft’s official store. This is the most expensive option.

  • OEM license – originally intended for computer manufacturers and system builders, but fully legal for end users as well.

  • Volume License – designed for companies and organizations that manage licenses in larger quantities.

OEM and Volume licenses are the main reason why Windows keys can be sold at lower prices without being illegal.

Why Can OEM and Volume Licenses Be Cheaper?

European Union Legislation

Within the European Union, the resale of software licenses is legal. This means that:

  • used or surplus licenses are lawful goods,

  • a license does not need to be tied to the original computer or a physical box,

  • the key requirement is that the same license is not used simultaneously on multiple devices.

This principle has also been confirmed by rulings of the European Court of Justice. As a result, licenses from:

  • surplus corporate IT procurement,

  • decommissioned devices,

  • system builder stock,

can be resold completely legally.

What About KMS? Isn’t That Suspicious?

This brings us to one of the most commonly misunderstood topics.

A Volume License does not automatically mean KMS activation.

KMS (Key Management Service) is one specific activation method used in large organizations where computers regularly connect to an internal company server. This type of activation is temporary and must be renewed periodically.

Problems arise when:

  • KMS is used on home computers,

  • fake or unauthorized KMS servers are used,

  • activation is done via scripts or so-called “activators.”

These practices are what have given KMS a bad reputation.

An Important Distinction

What many users do not realize is that Volume Licenses also support another activation method:

MAK (Multiple Activation Key)

  • activates directly against Microsoft’s servers,

  • is permanent and lifetime,

  • does not require a KMS server or periodic reactivation.

👉 MAK keys are also Volume Licenses, but they are not temporary and do not expire.
Therefore, it is incorrect to claim that all Volume Licenses are unreliable or suspicious.

How Does a Trustworthy Seller Differ from a Questionable One?

A reliable Windows key is not defined by its price, but by transparency and usage conditions.

A trustworthy seller:

  • clearly states what type of license is being sold,

  • does not use scripts or “activators,”

  • does not offer temporary activation solutions,

  • recommends a clean Windows installation,

  • provides customer support even after purchase.

Questionable offers, on the other hand:

  • promise “instant activation without restart,”

  • avoid explaining the license type,

  • misuse or obscure the KMS topic,

  • disappear as soon as problems occur.

Why Is a Clean Windows Installation Often Recommended?

Many activation problems are not caused by the license key itself, but by the system.
Previously used:

  • KMS activations,

  • cracks,

  • Home ↔ Pro edition switches,

can leave traces in the system that prevent even a completely legitimate key from activating correctly.

That is why it is often recommended to:

  • perform a clean Windows installation,

  • install the correct Windows edition,

  • activate using Microsoft’s official activation mechanisms.

This is not unnecessary caution—it is simply the most reliable approach in practice.

How Can You Check If Windows Is Permanently Activated?

Every user can verify this easily:

  1. Open Command Prompt as administrator

  2. Enter:

					slmgr /xpr

If you see the message “The machine is permanently activated,” Windows is activated permanently.
If an expiration date is shown instead, the activation is temporary and caution is advised.

Can a Cheap Windows Key Become Invalid Later?

When used correctly, the following licenses:

  • OEM licenses,

  • Retail licenses,

  • permanent Volume licenses (MAK),

do not expire and do not suddenly become “illegal.”

Problems typically arise when:

  • the same key is used on multiple computers,

  • the Windows edition does not match the key,

  • old KMS remnants remain in the system.

These are usage issues—not evidence that the license itself is illegal.

Conclusion: Are Cheap Windows 10 and Windows 11 Keys Legal?

Yes – a low price does not mean an illegal product.

The legality of a Windows key does not depend on its price, but on:

  • the type of license,

  • how it is activated,

  • whether the activation is permanent,

  • whether the seller is transparent and provides support.

If these conditions are met, a cheap Windows 10 or Windows 11 key is fully legal, secure, and a sensible choice.

What matters is not paying more—but making an informed decision.

Windows activation not working?

Windows activation not working? How to fix Windows 10 and 11 activation errors quickly and safely

If Windows shows messages like “Windows activation failed”, “Your Windows license will expire soon”, 0xC004C008 or 0xC004F074, users are usually confused – why is a perfectly working system suddenly asking to be activated again? This is especially surprising when the computer has just been bought from a shop or has come back from repair. In reality, the problem is more often related to old key remnants, KMS activation leftovers or an incorrect edition key – not something the user did wrong.

Important: if you bought your Windows license key from our store, it is intended to be used on a cleanly installed Windows 10 or Windows 11 system. This means that ideally Windows has been freshly installed without previous “cracks”, KMS activations or a long history of multiple upgrades. A key applied on top of an old and “patched together” system may sometimes work, but the likelihood of problems is much higher.

In this article, we explain why Windows activation sometimes fails, how to diagnose the issue, and we share a reliable solution that works for both Windows 10 and Windows 11. In most cases, you can solve the problem without reinstalling the PC, but in the long run the most reliable solution for our keys is still a clean install – especially if unofficial activation tools have been used on the computer in the past.

Why does Windows activation fail?

1. No clean install was done when using our store’s Windows key

The OEM and Retail keys we sell are designed to be used on a cleanly installed Windows. If the same computer has previously been:

  • activated via a KMS server,

  • “cracked” using unofficial activation tools,

  • switched multiple times between Home ↔ Pro,

  • heavily “repaired” or modified in a repair shop,

then the new legitimate key may technically be added to the system, but activation will fail because Windows still sees old activation logs, traces of an incorrect edition key or KMS configuration.

A clean installation removes all of these remnants and ensures that our key works the way Microsoft intended.

2. There are KMS activation leftovers on the computer

Many repair shops use “temporary” solutions to activate Windows. These are so-called KMS activations, which usually expire after 180 days. When the user later wants to use a legitimate OEM or Retail key, Windows may refuse to activate it because the old KMS server configuration is still present in the system.

3. The wrong edition key is installed

For example, a Windows 11 Pro key will not activate Windows 10 Pro, even though that might seem intuitive. Likewise, you cannot activate a Pro edition with a Windows 10 Home digital license. If the system says “We found a Windows 10 Home digital license for this device”, it means that the computer has previously been associated with a Home license and Pro activation is not possible without a new key or installing the correct edition.

4. The key has been used on too many computers

If Microsoft’s activation server reports that the key is already in use on multiple devices, you will see error code 0xC004C008.

5. Incorrect install or edition upgrade

Sometimes a computer has been upgraded from Home → Pro or Pro → Home without a proper key. In that case, Windows will ask for activation again because the old license no longer matches the installed edition.

The good news is that most problems can be solved with just a few commands – and if you use a key from our store on top of a clean installation, activation errors are almost completely eliminated.

How to fix Windows activation errors without reinstalling the system

The following steps work for both Windows 10 and Windows 11, because Microsoft uses the same activation mechanism in both systems.

The most important thing is to remove old KMS remnants and then add a new OEM/Retail key to a system that is as clean as possible.

1. Open Command Prompt with administrator rights

To remove old activation remnants, the command line must be opened in administrator mode. If you cannot search in the Start menu, use one of the following methods:

Method A – Win + X menu

  • Press Win + X

  • Select Windows Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin)

  • Confirm “Yes” in the UAC window

Method B – Task Manager (if Start doesn’t work)

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc

  • At the top → File → Run new task

  • Enter:

					cmd

  • Check the box Create this task with administrative privileges

  • Click OK

Method C – Win + R shortcut

  • Press Win + R

  • Type:

					powershell

Hold Ctrl + Shift → press Enter
→ PowerShell will open with admin rights.

2. Remove the old product key

In an elevated (administrator) Command Prompt, run:

					slmgr /upk

3. Clear information left from KMS activation

Enter:

					slmgr /ckms

and also:

					slmgr /cpky

These commands remove all associations with any KMS server, temporary activation tools and pirate key remnants. This is the single most important step in restoring proper Windows activation.

4. Restart the computer

Restarting helps Windows load the new configuration and frees the system completely from the old activation state.

5. Add your new OEM or Retail product key

If you have purchased a license (for example from our Softwarestore.my store), add it in the command line:

					slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

If everything is correct, you will see the message “Product key installed successfully.”

6. Activate Windows

					slmgr /ato

Windows should now activate directly against Microsoft’s servers. If you get an error message, it usually points either to an incorrectly entered key or to the fact that there are still incompatible activation remnants in the system.

7. Check the Windows activation status

					slmgr /xpr

If everything worked, Windows will show:

✔ “The machine is permanently activated.”

👉 📞 Alternative Solution: Activate Windows by Phone

If Windows still does not activate after the previous steps and you see errors such as 0xC004C008, 0xC004F074, or another activation error, Microsoft’s phone activation method may help.

Although the name suggests that you need to make a phone call, nowadays the activation can often be completed through a web page, without actually calling anyone.

1. Open the phone activation window

Press on your keyboard:

					Win + R

Type in the window that opens:

					slui 4

Press Enter.

Windows will open the activation window where you need to select a country.

2. Select a country

Choose your country from the list. If your country is not listed (this can happen in some Windows versions), select Ireland or another European country.

This does not affect the activation result.

3. Open Microsoft's activation page

Instead of calling the phone number, you can use Microsoft’s official activation page:

https://aka.ms/aoh

Enter the Installation ID shown in the Windows activation window.

4. Generate the Confirmation ID

Microsoft’s system will then generate a Confirmation ID, which you can enter in the Windows activation window.

5. If activation does not work immediately

If Windows shows a message that activation failed after entering the Confirmation ID, click “Troubleshoot.”

In many cases, Windows will then automatically link the license to the computer’s hardware and the system will activate successfully.

💡 This method works for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 and often resolves situations where standard online activation does not work.

Based on this information, we can provide a fast solution.

Summary: Windows activation

Windows activation may seem complicated at first, but in most cases problems can be resolved within a few minutes. Usually the cause is old KMS activation remnants, an incorrect Windows edition, or a product key conflict, not a hardware issue or a fault in Windows itself.

If you clean the system using the correct commands and add a valid OEM or Retail key, Windows should activate normally and permanently in both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

For licenses purchased from our store, the most reliable approach is to perform a clean installation of Windows before using the key. This removes any old activation remnants and prevents up to 90% of potential activation issues.

If activation still fails, you can often resolve the issue by using phone activation (slui 4) or the built-in Windows Troubleshoot feature.

FAQ: Windows activation – frequently asked questions

1. Why is my Windows activation failing?

The most common reason is old activation or KMS remnants that prevent a new OEM or Retail key from activating. Other typical causes are an incorrectly entered key, the wrong Windows edition, or a license that has already been used on several computers.

2. What is KMS and why does it cause Windows activation errors?

KMS (Key Management Service) is an activation solution for companies. Many repair shops or unofficial activators use KMS as a temporary activation method. KMS expires and interferes with the activation of a genuine key until it is manually removed from the system.

3. Do the Windows keys from your store require a clean install?

Yes – our recommendation is to always use the keys on a clean install (freshly installed Windows 10 or Windows 11 without previous cracks, KMS activations or edition experiments). This makes activation as reliable and stable as possible.

Technically, the key may sometimes work on an existing system, but:

  • old KMS remnants,

  • unofficial activation tools,

  • Home ↔ Pro upgrades back and forth

can lead to a situation where a completely valid key will not activate or loses its validity after some time.

Therefore, we recommend that you:

  • perform a clean install of Windows,

  • install the correct edition (for example, Windows 10 Pro for a Win 10 Pro key),

  • then add the OEM/Retail key purchased from our store and activate Windows.

If a clean install is not possible and activation still fails, please send us screenshots of the error message and the result of the slmgr /dlv command – we will help you quickly identify the root cause.

4. Does this Windows activation guide work for both Windows 10 and Windows 11?

Yes. All commands (slmgr /upk, /ckms, /cpky, /ipk, /ato) and the activation mechanisms are identical in Windows 10 and Windows 11. The same process works in both operating systems.

5. How do I open Command Prompt or PowerShell as administrator?

You have several options:

Win + X method:

  • Press Win + X

  • Select Windows Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin)

Task Manager method:

  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

  • File → Run new task → type cmd

  • Check “Create this task with administrative privileges”

Win + R method:

  • Press Win + R

  • Type powershell

  • Hold Ctrl + Shift and press Enter

All of these methods open a command line with administrator rights.

6. How do I remove old activation remnants from the system?

In an elevated Command Prompt (run as administrator), enter the following commands one by one:

slmgr /upk
slmgr /ckms
slmgr /cpky

This removes the old product key and KMS settings.
Then restart the computer.

7. How do I add a new Windows product key?

After the restart, enter:

slmgr /ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Replace the Xs with your OEM or Retail key.

8. How do I activate Windows after adding the key?

Use the command:

slmgr /ato

This activates Windows directly against Microsoft’s servers.

9. How do I check if Windows is activated?

Quick Windows activation check:

slmgr /xpr

If everything is fine, you will see the message:

“The machine is permanently activated.”

If a date is shown instead, the activation is temporary and there may still be KMS remnants in the system.

10. I have Win 10 Pro, but the system says a Win 10 Home digital license was found. Why?

This means that the computer’s hardware is associated with a previously used Home license.
You cannot activate the Pro edition with a Home key.
You need to use a Windows 10 Pro OEM or Retail key.

11. Do I have to reinstall Windows if activation doesn’t work?

Not necessarily.
Most problems are solved by removing KMS remnants and adding a new key. A full reinstall is only needed if you want to switch between Pro → Home or Home → Pro without a proper key.

12. Is this process safe?

Yes.
All slmgr commands are Microsoft’s own tools. They do not delete files or programs – they only change the activation configuration.

13. What should I do if Windows activation still doesn’t work after all these steps?

If Windows activation still doesn’t work after all these steps, contact our customer support at hello@softwarestore.my – we can check the status of your key and provide a new OEM/Retail license if needed. Issues related to the key itself are usually resolved very quickly.

If you purchased Windows from our store, please send our support team the following Windows activation details so we can help you as fast as possible:

  • A screenshot of the exact error message in the Windows activation window.
    – You can take a screenshot with Win+Shift+S (Snipping Tool) or the Print Screen key and then save the image.

  • A screenshot of the result of the slmgr /dlv command.
    – Open the Start menu and type cmd.
    – Right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator”.
    – Type slmgr /dlv and press Enter.
    – Wait until a new window with license information appears and take a screenshot of it.

With these two screenshots, we can usually resolve Windows activation issues very quickly.

14. Can Windows be activated by phone?

Yes. If standard online activation does not work, Windows can also be activated using the phone activation method.

  1. Press Win + R

  2. Type: slui 4

  3. Select a country from the list (for example, Ireland).

  4. Enter the displayed Installation ID

You can generate the Confirmation ID using Microsoft's official activation page:
https://aka.ms/aoh

If activation does not work immediately, try clicking Troubleshoot. In many cases Windows will then activate automatically.
